I finally took the old HP xt923 that was our desktop and installed Clarkconnect Community server on it.  Still playing with the set up before I put it on the home network fulltime.  So my question is, due to I have it set static on the same router as the network, is that going to work for the long run, or should I set up another router on a different IP address scheme within the current network?

The server will be for home network file sharing, mailserver for internal network, and may be photosharing.  If it comes down to being a PITA, I may look at something else.

Joining any server to an existing network is always a PITA.

Here are a few articles for you to look at:
http://linux-sxs.org/networking/nt4dom_samba.html
http://computer-vet.com/tech/linuxfileserver.html
http://www.ehow.com/how_2036581_connect-server-network.html
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?t=371794

You are going to have to setup Samba to get the file server to work with the Windows network.

Everything works out of the box with ClarkConnect. It is just that I need to pull out the book to set up rules and everything for the mailserver.

Got the server stable, and my wife now thinks that because the server is downstairs where the deep freezer is, that means a Snickers Ice Cream bar run every now and then.  Next thing she will try is to access the settings menu to reboot it.
